A hybrid SUV on a long highway drive

Hybrid SUVs With the Longest Driving Range in India (2026)

Mileage alone does not decide range, because tank size does at least as much work. The Maruti Brezza is less efficient than the Fronx yet travels roughly 217 km further on a fill, purely on capacity. Among the three Strong Hybrids, all of which carry 45 litres, efficiency is the only variable, so the Victoris's 0.68 km/l advantage over the Grand Vitara and Hyryder is worth exactly 30 km. Only the top three clear 1,250 km on certified figures.

The Maruti Victoris Strong Hybrid has the longest estimated full-tank range of any hybrid SUV sold in India, at about 1,289 km from a 45-litre tank and a certified 28.65 km/l. The Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder tie at about 1,259 km on identical hardware. The Maruti Fronx, despite respectable per-litre mileage, finishes last at about 795 km because its tank holds only 37 litres.

Mileage alone does not tell you how far a car will go. A hybrid with excellent efficiency and a small tank can fall short of one that is slightly thirstier but carries more fuel. None of these are plug-in hybrids, so there is no certified electric range to quote. This list uses a straightforward proxy instead: certified mileage multiplied by tank capacity, giving a full-tank estimate rather than a lab-tested range figure.

How this is calculated

Estimated full-tank range is the car's ARAI-certified mileage in km/l multiplied by its fuel tank capacity in litres, both taken from the manufacturer's own brochure. It is an estimate, not a certified range rating, and real-world distance will vary with driving style, traffic, and terrain just as any mileage figure does. Where a model offers several mileage figures across trims, the best one is used, and the trim is named.

Key takeaways

  • Maruti Victoris Strong Hybrid, about 1,289 km: the longest range of any hybrid SUV sold in India, from the best certified mileage in the segment.
  • Grand Vitara and Hyryder tie at about 1,259 km. They share a powertrain, a tank size, and a mileage figure, so the 30 km gap to the Victoris comes entirely from efficiency.
  • Tank size decides the bottom of this list. The Maruti Brezza carries 48 litres against the Fronx's 37 and travels about 217 km further on a fill despite lower per-litre mileage.
  • Strong Hybrids win on range twice over, with both better efficiency and, in this group, tanks no smaller than the mild hybrids they beat.
  • Only the top three can realistically clear 1,000 km between fills on the certified numbers.

What tank size actually does here

The Brezza and Fronx make the point better than the Strong Hybrids do. The Fronx is the more efficient of the two on paper, 21.5 km/l against 21.09, yet the Brezza travels roughly 217 km further on a tank. An 11-litre difference in capacity outweighs a 0.41 km/l difference in efficiency by a wide margin.

Among the Strong Hybrids the opposite holds, because all three carry the same 45 litres. There, efficiency is the only variable, which is why the Victoris's 0.68 km/l advantage translates into exactly 30 km of extra range and nothing else separates the three.

1. Maruti Victoris Strong Hybrid, about 1,289 km

Price: from ₹16.43 lakh ex-showroom for the Strong Hybrid range.

The Victoris leads on range because it leads on efficiency, pairing the segment's best certified figure with the same 45-litre tank its rivals use. It is the newest of Maruti's Strong Hybrid SUVs and currently the longest-range hybrid on sale here by this measure.

Key features: panoramic sunroof, 360-degree HD camera with 11 views, front ventilated seats, wireless charging, 6 airbags standard.

Certified mileage: 28.65 km/l.

Tank capacity: 45 litres.

Estimated range: about 1,289 km.

Safety: 5-star Bharat NCAP, scoring 31.66 of 32 for adult occupant protection and 43 of 49 for child occupant protection, plus a separate 5-star Global NCAP result for both adult and child occupants.

Worth knowing: the Victoris's Level 2 ADAS sits on the Smart Hybrid petrol automatic trims, not on the Strong Hybrid covered here. The Strong Hybrid does not offer it at any price, which is the most common misreading of this car's specification.

2. Maruti Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, about 1,259 km

Price: from about ₹16.63 lakh ex-showroom for the Strong Hybrid range.

The Grand Vitara introduced Maruti's Strong Hybrid system to the mid-size segment and remains one of the two longest-range options here, sharing its powertrain and tank size with the Victoris exactly.

Key features: panoramic sunroof on the (O) variants, 360 View Camera, front ventilated seats, wireless charging from the Zeta+ trim, Head-Up Display on the Alpha+ trim, 6 airbags standard.

Certified mileage: 27.97 km/l.

Tank capacity: 45 litres.

Estimated range: about 1,259 km.

Safety: no published Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP rating.

Worth knowing: the Grand Vitara offers no ADAS on any trim, in any fuel. Its brochure lists none. The Head-Up Display is an Alpha+ feature rather than arriving at Zeta+ with the wireless charger.

3. Toyota Hyryder Strong Hybrid, about 1,259 km

Price: from about ₹17.18 lakh ex-showroom. Toyota publishes no ex-showroom prices in India, so this is a dealer-listed figure.

Built on the same line and using the same Strong Hybrid powertrain as the Grand Vitara, the Hyryder returns an identical range. The differences are styling, badge, equipment, and dealer network rather than anything mechanical.

Key features: panoramic sunroof, Surround View Monitor on the V grade, front ventilated seats, wireless charging, Head-Up Display, cruise control standard across the Strong Hybrid range.

Certified mileage: 27.97 km/l.

Tank capacity: 45 litres.

Estimated range: about 1,259 km.

Safety: a 4-star Global NCAP result from 2022 exists for a "Toyota Urban Cruiser" but does not clearly identify the current-generation Hyryder, so it should not be treated as a verified rating for the car sold today.

Worth knowing: Toyota's brochure lists no ADAS on any Hyryder variant, and the Surround View Monitor is fitted to the V grade alone rather than arriving partway up the range.

4. Maruti Brezza, about 1,012 km

Price: the Brezza's petrol range starts at about ₹8.69 lakh ex-showroom.

The Brezza is not a Strong Hybrid and cannot approach the top three on efficiency, but its 48-litre tank is the largest here and carries it past the 1,000 km mark. The figure used is the best in its range, 21.09 km/l on the LXi and VXi manual. The ZXi manual is rated 20.81 km/l and the automatics 20.17 km/l, which would bring the estimate down to about 968 km.

Key features: electric sunroof from the ZXi trim, 17.78 cm touchscreen with wireless smartphone mirroring, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, wireless charging, 6 airbags standard.

Certified mileage: 21.09 km/l on the LXi and VXi manual.

Tank capacity: 48 litres.

Estimated range: about 1,012 km.

Worth knowing: the Brezza now also sells a 1.0-litre Turbo Boosterjet Smart Hybrid making 110.12 PS and 170 Nm, rated 20.47 km/l on the LXi and VXi and 19.96 km/l on the ZXi and ZXi+, which works out to a shorter range than the 1.5-litre manual despite the same tank.

5. Maruti Fronx 1.0 Turbo, about 795 km

Price: from ₹9.76 lakh ex-showroom for the Zeta Turbo manual.

The Fronx rounds out the list. Its around-town efficiency is genuinely good and it is the second most efficient car here per litre, but a 37-litre tank means it needs refuelling far sooner than any Strong Hybrid SUV on a long run.

Key features: Head-Up Display and 360 View Camera on the Alpha trim, cruise control on the Alpha trim, wireless charging, 6 airbags standard with ESP and hill-hold assist.

Certified mileage: 21.5 km/l on the 1.0 Turbo manual, 20.01 km/l on the automatic.

Tank capacity: 37 litres.

Estimated range: about 795 km on the manual, or about 740 km on the automatic.

Safety: there is no Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP result for the India-spec Fronx. A made-in-India Fronx sold in Japan scored 4 stars under Japan NCAP, and Australasian NCAP rated a Fronx 1 star. Neither describes the Indian car, and the two disagree sharply.

Conclusion

On range, Strong Hybrid SUVs pull clear of mild hybrids, and by more than the mileage gap alone suggests, because none of them pays for that efficiency with a smaller tank. The top three all clear 1,250 km on certified figures, while the two mild hybrids sit between 795 and 1,012 km.

The more transferable point is that tank size does at least as much work as efficiency once the comparison crosses model lines. The Brezza is less efficient than the Fronx and travels roughly 217 km further, purely on capacity. Anyone cross-shopping on how far a fill will take them should multiply the two numbers rather than read the mileage column alone.

FAQs

Is the Victoris Strong Hybrid's range a certified figure?

No. It is certified mileage multiplied by tank capacity, both from the manufacturer's brochure. It is an estimate, not a certified range rating of the kind an EV carries.

Why do the Grand Vitara and Hyryder have identical ranges?

They share the same Strong Hybrid powertrain, the same 45-litre tank, and the same 27.97 km/l certification, since both are built on the same platform and production line.

Does a bigger fuel tank always mean longer range?

Not always, but it does here. The Brezza has a lower certified mileage than the Fronx and still travels about 217 km further on a tank, because its 48 litres outweigh the 0.41 km/l efficiency gap.

Are any of these plug-in hybrids?

No. Every car here runs on petrol and cannot be charged externally. The battery is replenished by the engine and by regenerative braking only.

Which of these offers ADAS?

Only the Victoris, and only on its Smart Hybrid petrol automatic trims. The Strong Hybrid version covered here does not get it, and the Grand Vitara and Hyryder brochures list no ADAS on any variant.
