Which Hybrid MPVs Offer Second-Row Captain Seats in India? (2026)

Captain seats cost you a seat, so decide on six or seven before you pick a variant. The XL6 is the only hybrid MPV that fits them to every variant, which removes the trim decision entirely, and it undercuts the next cheapest by about Rs 13 lakh. On the Invicto the choice is explicit: the 7S variants get captain seats and the 8S gets a bench. The Hycross ZX is the only car here under Rs 1 crore with powered ottoman second-row seats.

Five hybrid MPVs in India offer second-row captain seats, and the cheapest is the Maruti Suzuki XL6, which fits them to every variant from Rs 11.62 lakh ex-showroom. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto offers them on both its seven-seat variants, from Rs 25.02 lakh. The Toyota Innova Hycross offers them on every hybrid grade in seven-seat form and adds powered ottomans on the ZX and ZX(O). Above those sit the Toyota Vellfire and the Lexus LM 350h.

Captain seats cost you a seat. That is the first decision, before price or trim: the XL6 becomes a six seater, and the Invicto and Hycross drop from eight seats to seven. If you regularly carry a full load, a bench is the right answer.

Key takeaways

  • The XL6 is the only hybrid MPV here with captain seats as standard on every single variant, including the CNG.
  • On the Invicto, the Zeta Plus 7S and Alpha Plus 7S get captain seats. The Zeta Plus 8S uses a bench instead.
  • On the Hycross, captain seats come with the seven-seat layout on every hybrid grade. The ZX and ZX(O) are seven-seat only and upgrade to powered ottoman seats.
  • Powered ottomans below Rs 1 crore exist on exactly one car here, the Hycross ZX.
  • The Invicto and Hycross tie at a claimed 22.16 km/l, since they share a hybrid system.

What you actually get varies more than the name suggests

All five fit two individual middle-row seats in place of a bench, but the seats themselves are three different propositions.

  • Slide and recline, on the XL6 and Invicto. Maruti describes the XL6's as plush captain seats with one-touch recline and slide, and the Invicto's as captain seats with walk-in slide and recline. The walk-in slide is the part that matters day to day, because it clears a path to the third row in one motion.
  • Powered ottoman, on the Hycross ZX and ZX(O). The leg rest extends from the cushion and the seat slides a long way back. Below Rs 1 crore, this is the only car here that offers it.
  • Lounge seating, on the Vellfire and the Lexus LM. Ottoman plus massage on the Vellfire; on the LM, second-row seats that are both ventilated and heated, with a single seat-shaped control for recline, cushion tilt, ottoman and climate.

How to choose

Count your passengers first. If you need eight seats more than a few times a year, captain seats are the wrong feature and the Invicto Zeta Plus 8S or a Hycross VX in eight-seat form is the better buy.

If six seats work, the XL6 settles the question at roughly a third of the Invicto's price, and it is the only one that does not tie captain seats to a specific variant.

If you want seven seats with captain chairs, the real comparison is the Invicto Zeta Plus 7S against a Hycross VX seven seater. They share a powertrain and a mileage figure, so the choice comes down to equipment and what your dealer quotes.

On the test drive, do two things: sit in the third row with the captain seats set where an adult would actually have them, and work the walk-in slide yourself. That mechanism gets used on every single trip, and the difference between a smooth one and a stiff one is felt daily.
