Best Hybrid MPVs in India (2026): Every Strong and Mild Hybrid on Sale

Seven MPVs on sale in India use a hybrid system, and they are not all the same kind of hybrid. Four are strong hybrids, led on price by the Maruti Invicto at ₹24.97 lakh, the only strong-hybrid MPV you can buy for under ₹25 lakh. The other three are mild hybrids, and the cheapest of those, the Maruti Ertiga Smart Hybrid at ₹8.90 lakh, is also the cheapest hybrid MPV of any kind.

That difference matters. The word "hybrid" on a brochure can describe two very different pieces of hardware, so this guide lists every hybrid MPV on sale and says plainly which kind each one is. Every fuel economy figure here is the one printed in the manufacturer's own brochure or price page.

Strong hybrid or mild hybrid: what the label means

The Invicto and the Innova Hycross both carry a 168-cell nickel-metal hydride battery, and both list an EV mode in their manufacturers' specification tables. Maruti says the Invicto lets you drive in EV mode for 60% of your time in the city.

The mild hybrids work differently. Maruti and Toyota list what their integrated starter generators do: idle start-stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist. None of the three mild-hybrid MPVs lists an EV mode in its specifications.

The published fuel economy figures for the three 1.5-litre mild hybrids sit between 20.11 and 20.97 km/l. The Invicto and the Innova Hycross hybrid are both certified at 22.16 km/l.

Prices are for the cheapest hybrid variant of each model. "Not listed" means the maker's specifications do not mention an EV mode. Certified figures are tested under Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, so treat them as test-cycle figures, not real-world ones.

How we picked

• It has to be an MPV. Three-row SUVs are outside the scope of this list, whatever their engine.
• It has to be a hybrid by the maker's own description. That means either a strong hybrid or a mild hybrid with a starter generator that assists the engine. Fully electric MPVs are not hybrids and are not on this list.
• It has to be on sale now, with a published ex-showroom price. We checked every MPV on sale in India on 13 September 2026 against manufacturer brochures and price pages.

Strong hybrids come first below, then mild hybrids, each group in order of starting price.

Strong-hybrid MPVs

1. Maruti Invicto

Specifications

Best for: the cheapest way into a strong-hybrid MPV

The Invicto starts at ₹24.97 lakh, which makes it the cheapest strong-hybrid MPV in India and the only one under ₹25 lakh. There is no plain petrol Invicto, so the entry price buys the full hybrid system: an 83.73 kW electric motor, the EV mode, and Eco, Normal and Power drive modes. Both trims also get paddle shifters, cruise control and AC vents for the second and third rows. The Alpha+ adds a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a power driver's seat with memory and a one-touch powered tailgate.

The trade-off

Maruti's brochure lists no ADAS on either trim, and the 360-degree camera, parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring are limited to the top Alpha+ trim.

2. Toyota Innova Hycross (hybrid)

Best for: buyers who want a strong-hybrid MPV with ADAS

The Hycross is also sold with a plain petrol engine, so the cheaper G-SLF, GX and GX(O) grades are not hybrids. The hybrid starts with the VX at ₹26.76 lakh, and all four hybrid grades get the EV mode and the Eco, Normal and Power drive modes, according to Toyota's specification table.

Between the Hycross and the Invicto, only the Hycross is offered with ADAS. Toyota Safety Sense covers dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a pre-collision system and auto high beam, on the top ZX(O) grade alone.

The trade-off

The cheapest Hycross hybrid costs ₹1.79 lakh more than the cheapest Invicto, and ADAS needs the top ZX(O) grade.

3. Toyota Vellfire

Best for: second-row comfort in a strong-hybrid MPV

The Vellfire is where the strong-hybrid MPV turns into a luxury car. Toyota sells it in India only as a hybrid, in Hi and VIP Executive Lounge grades, and it costs almost five times as much as the Invicto. Toyota's India brochure shows where that money goes: extra-large second-row captain seats with ottomans, a second-row massage function, power roll-down sunblinds, and a 35.5 cm infotainment screen with 15 JBL speakers. A 35.5 cm rear entertainment screen is listed for the VIP grade only.

The trade-off

Toyota's India brochure gives no certified fuel economy figure, so the Vellfire cannot be compared with the Invicto or the Hycross on efficiency.

4. Lexus LM 350h

Specifications

Powertrain: 2.5-litre petrol strong hybrid with front and rear electric motors, 182 kW total system output, CVT

Fuel economy: no certified figure in Lexus India's brochure

Safety: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0

Best for: a four-seat Ultra Luxury layout or a seven-seater at the top of the market

Lexus calls the LM its flagship luxury MPV, and at ₹2.20 crore it costs close to twice as much as the Vellfire. Lexus India's brochure lists a 138 kW engine working with a 134 kW front motor and a 40 kW rear motor, for 182 kW in total, and a nickel-metal hydride battery. The four-seat version gets a 121.9 cm (48-inch) ultrawide rear display, and the seven-seater has a 35.5 cm ceiling-mounted screen instead. Its drive modes add a Rear Comfort setting to Normal, Eco and Sport.

The trade-off

It is the most expensive car on this list, and Lexus India's brochure gives no certified fuel economy figure.

Mild-hybrid MPVs

5. Maruti Ertiga Smart Hybrid

Best for: the lowest price of any hybrid MPV

At ₹8.90 lakh, the Ertiga Smart Hybrid LXI is the cheapest hybrid MPV in India. You do not have to hunt for the right trim, either, because every petrol Ertiga is a Smart Hybrid. Only the CNG versions, labelled S-CNG, are not. Maruti's brochure lists what the Smart Hybrid hardware adds on every petrol version: idle start-stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist. The CNG versions go without all three. Every grade has a 60:40 second row with one-touch recline and slide and a 50:50 third row that reclines and folds flat. From the VXI up, the second row gets AC vents and a 60 W Type-C USB charger, and the third row gets its own AC with stage control. The six-speed automatic starts with the VXI at ₹11.30 lakh.

The trade-off

It is a mild hybrid with no EV mode listed in its specifications, and it has no ADAS listed either.

6. Toyota Rumion

Best for: a seven-seat mild hybrid sold by Toyota

Toyota does not call the Rumion a hybrid on its model page. Look at its specification table, though, and every Neo Drive grade lists an integrated starter generator with idle start-stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist. Only the CNG grade goes without them. Its figures line up with the Ertiga's: the same 1.5-litre engine size, 75.8 kW and 139 Nm, seven seats, and a certified 20.51 km/l for the manual. The automatics differ, with Toyota's brochure certifying the Rumion automatic at 20.11 km/l.

The trade-off

The Rumion starts ₹89,000 above the Ertiga, and its automatic's certified figure is 0.19 km/l lower than the Ertiga automatic's.

7. Maruti XL6 Smart Hybrid

Seats: 6, with second-row captain seats

Safety: 6 airbags as standard, stability control with hill hold assist

Best for: six seats with captain chairs for under ₹15 lakh

The XL6 is the only mild-hybrid MPV under ₹15 lakh with six seats and second-row captain chairs. Maruti's brochure lists those chairs with one-touch recline and slide, which opens a path into the third row, and the third row splits 50:50, reclines and folds flat. Every petrol version is a Smart Hybrid with idle start-stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist, sold through Maruti's NEXA showrooms. Every grade gets cruise control, second-row AC vents, third-row AC with stage control and 60 W Type-C USB chargers in both rear rows. The Alpha adds a 360-degree camera and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the Alpha+ adds ventilated front seats.

The trade-off

Six seats instead of seven, a starting price ₹2.72 lakh above the Ertiga's, and no EV mode listed.

How the claimed fuel economy figures compare

Maruti and Toyota list the same 1,987 cc engine, 139 kW system output and 168-cell battery for the Invicto and the Innova Hycross hybrid, and their current brochures give both the same figure, 22.16 km/l, certified under Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. You will still see 23.24 km/l quoted for both, including in an FAQ on Maruti's own site. That is not the figure in either current brochure.

The 1.5-litre mild hybrids sit just below. Maruti's and Toyota's brochures certify 20.51 km/l for the Ertiga and Rumion manuals, 20.30 km/l for the Ertiga automatic and 20.11 km/l for the Rumion automatic. Maruti's price page lists 20.97 km/l for the XL6 manual and 20.27 km/l for the XL6 automatic. On paper, then, a strong hybrid here is between 1.19 and 2.05 km/l more efficient than a mild hybrid.

The Toyota and Lexus brochures for India give no certified figure for the Vellfire or the LM.

Conclusion

If you want a strong hybrid for less than ₹25 lakh, there is exactly one, the Maruti Invicto at ₹24.97 lakh. The Innova Hycross hybrid starts at ₹26.76 lakh and is the one to choose if ADAS matters, though only its ZX(O) grade has it. Budget tighter? The Ertiga Smart Hybrid at ₹8.90 lakh is the cheapest hybrid MPV in the country, and the XL6 is the pick when six seats with captain chairs matter more to you than a seventh. At the top of the market, the Vellfire from ₹1.20 crore and the Lexus LM from ₹2.20 crore are the choices.
