Most Powerful Hybrid SUVs in India (2026)
In an SUV, torque and when it arrives matter more than peak power, which is why the Honda ZR-V's 315 Nm from zero rpm is the figure to note. The Grand Vitara, Victoris and Hyryder strong hybrids are mechanically identical at 85 kW, so choose between them on crash rating and price, not performance. The trap below Rs 20 lakh: Maruti's ALLGRIP all-wheel drive is offered only with the 103.06 PS smart hybrid, so choosing traction costs you 12.5 PS and roughly 9 km/l.
The most powerful hybrid SUV in India is the Lexus RX 500h, with 273 kW of total system output from a 2.4-litre turbo engine making 200 kW and 460 Nm, plus motors on both axles. Below the Lexus range, the Honda ZR-V e:HEV leads at 135 kW, or 184 PS. Under Rs 20 lakh the answer is a three-way tie at 85 kW, or 115.56 PS, shared by the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrids, which use the same powertrain.
In an SUV the number that matters is rarely peak power. It is torque, and when it arrives. A loaded seven-seat SUV pulling out of a hairpin on a hill road needs low-end torque, which is exactly what an electric motor supplies from zero rpm.
Key takeaways
- Lexus RX 500h, 273 kW: the most powerful hybrid SUV sold here, with DIRECT4 all-wheel drive.
- Honda ZR-V e:HEV: 135 kW and 315 Nm from the motor, the highest torque of any hybrid SUV below the Lexus range.
- Grand Vitara, Victoris and Hyryder strong hybrids all make the identical 85 kW, or 115.56 PS. They share a powertrain, so there is no performance reason to choose between them.
- Brezza 1.0 turbo, 110.12 PS and 170 Nm from 2,000 rpm: the most powerful hybrid SUV under 4 metres.
- All-wheel drive and maximum power do not come together below Rs 20 lakh. Maruti's ALLGRIP is offered only with the 103.06 PS smart hybrid, not the strong hybrid.

The three-way tie, and why it exists
Ranks five, six and seven are the same car mechanically. The Grand Vitara, Victoris and Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrids all use a 1,490 cc engine making 68 kW, or 92.45 PS, and 122 Nm, with a 59 kW motor making 141 Nm, for 85 kW or 115.56 PS of total system output. All three claim 27.97 km/l except the Victoris, which claims 28.65 km/l.
On power, there is nothing to choose between them. What separates them is everything else: the Victoris holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating at 31.66 of 32 and the other two have never been tested, and the Victoris is the only one whose strong hybrid price ladder Maruti publishes in full.
The ones worth a closer look
Lexus RX 500h, 273 kW
Powertrain: A 2,393 cc turbo petrol making 200 kW and 460 Nm, with electric motors front and rear and a six-speed automatic driving all four wheels through DIRECT4.
What DIRECT4 does: it varies how much drive goes to the front and rear axles rather than splitting it fixedly, which is what lets a two-tonne SUV reach 100 km/h in a claimed 6.2 seconds.
Price: From Rs 1.11 crore.
Honda ZR-V e:HEV, 135 kW
The most powerful hybrid SUV below the Lexus range, and the one with the most usable torque.
Powertrain: A 2.0-litre e:HEV. The engine makes 105 kW, or 143 PS, and 189 Nm; the traction motor makes 135 kW, or 184 PS, and 315 Nm from zero to 2,000 rpm. System output is 135 kW, through an e-CVT.
Mileage: 22.80 km/l claimed, and Honda quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. That combination is the ZR-V's whole argument.
Also: eight airbags, Honda Sensing, a 360-degree camera, ECON, Normal and Sport modes and deceleration paddles for regeneration.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.0 turbo, 81 kW
The power answer for anyone shopping under Rs 10 lakh.
Powertrain: A 998 cc K10C DiTC turbo petrol with smart hybrid assistance, 81 kW or 110.12 PS, and 170 Nm from 2,000 rpm, with a six-speed manual.
Mileage: 19.96 to 20.47 km/l.
Price: From Rs 7,49,900, which also makes it the cheapest hybrid SUV in the 18 percent GST slab.
Safety: Six airbags as standard and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating at 30.41 of 32 for adults and 43.00 of 49 for children.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 turbo, 73.6 kW
Slightly less power than the Brezza from the same family of engine, in a lighter body, and the only one here offering the turbo with an automatic.
Powertrain: A 998 cc turbo petrol with smart hybrid assistance, 73.6 kW or 100.06 PS and 147.6 Nm, with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
Mileage: 21.5 km/l manual, 20.01 km/l automatic, better than the Brezza turbo on both.
Variants with the turbo: Delta+ as a manual, and Zeta and Alpha as manual or automatic.
Power or all-wheel drive, because you cannot have both cheaply
This is the trade-off that catches out buyers shopping Maruti's mid-size SUVs.
The Grand Vitara and Victoris both offer ALLGRIP Select all-wheel drive, with Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock modes. On both cars it is bolted to the 1,462 cc smart hybrid making 103.06 PS, not the strong hybrid. Choosing all-wheel drive means giving up 12.5 PS of system output and around 9 km/l of claimed efficiency, since the ALLGRIP automatic returns 19.07 to 19.20 km/l against 27.97 to 28.65 for the strong hybrid.
Above Rs 65 lakh the choice disappears: every Lexus hybrid SUV here drives all four wheels, with an electric motor on the rear axle rather than a propshaft.

Not reliably. The 115.56 PS Grand Vitara and Hyryder strong hybrids claim 27.97 km/l, better than the 110.12 PS Brezza turbo at about 20 km/l, because the strong hybrid runs on its motor at low speed. See the most fuel-efficient hybrid SUVs in India.
