Most Powerful Hybrid Cars in India (2026)
Rank hybrids by combined system output, not engine power, or you will get the order wrong: the Honda ZR-V's engine makes 105 kW while its system makes 135 kW. Power and efficiency are not opposed here either, since the 139 kW Invicto and Innova Hycross both claim 22.16 km/l. One figure to stop worrying about: the Invicto's 188.9 PS and the Hycross's 183.7 HP describe the same 139 kW powertrain in different units.
The most powerful hybrid car on sale in India is the Lexus RX 500h, with 273 kW of total system output, 460 Nm and a claimed 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. The most powerful hybrid most buyers will actually cross-shop is the Toyota Camry Hybrid at 169 kW, or 230 PS. Under Rs 30 lakh, the answer is the Maruti Suzuki Invicto at 139 kW, or 188.9 PS combined.
One number matters more than any other here, and it is not the engine's. A strong hybrid's combined system output is what the car actually delivers when engine and motor work together, and that figure can be far higher than the engine alone. The Honda ZR-V's engine makes 105 kW; the system makes 135 kW. Compare system figures, or you will rank these cars wrongly.
Key takeaways
- Lexus RX 500h, 273 kW: the most powerful hybrid sold in India, and the only one here with 460 Nm.
- Toyota Camry Hybrid, 169 kW or 230 PS: the most powerful hybrid under Rs 1 crore.
- Maruti Suzuki Invicto, 139 kW or 188.9 PS: the most powerful hybrid under Rs 30 lakh.
- Honda ZR-V e:HEV: the highest torque figure of the mainstream hybrids, 315 Nm from the motor, available from zero rpm.
- Power and efficiency are not opposed here. The Invicto and Hycross make 139 kW and still claim 22.16 km/l.

| Prices are ex-showroom Delhi, read from each manufacturer's own price list in October 2026. Power and torque come from each model's official brochure. Toyota publishes no ex-showroom prices on its Indian website and Honda quotes through a city-specific checker. The Toyota Vellfire also uses a 2.5-litre hybrid, but Toyota does not publish a combined system figure for it, so it is not ranked above. |
Why the engine figure misleads you
Three cars on this list make the point better than any explanation.
The Honda ZR-V e:HEV has a 2.0-litre engine making 105 kW and 189 Nm. Its motor makes 135 kW and 315 Nm, and Honda rates the system at 135 kW. The engine is largely a generator in this layout, so the engine number tells you almost nothing about how the car drives.
The Honda City e:HEV is the same story in miniature: a 74 kW engine, an 80 kW motor with 253 Nm available from zero rpm, and a 93 kW system. A buyer comparing the 74 kW figure with a 90 kW petrol rival would reach exactly the wrong conclusion.
The Maruti Invicto and Toyota Innova Hycross share one powertrain and describe it differently. Maruti quotes 139 kW, or 188.9 PS, and 206 Nm. Toyota quotes the same 139 kW as 183.7 HP, with 191 Nm of engine torque and 206 Nm from the motor. Both are correct; PS and HP are different units and the two brands pick different ones. If you see 188.9 and 183.7 quoted as though they were rival figures, they are the same car.
The mainstream picks in detail
Maruti Suzuki Invicto, 139 kW
The most powerful hybrid you can buy under Rs 30 lakh, and it comes in every variant rather than only the top one.
Powertrain: A 1,987 cc petrol engine with a strong hybrid system and an e-CVT. Maruti rates total system output at 139 kW, or 188.9 PS, with 206 Nm.
Price: Rs 25.02 lakh to Rs 28.80 lakh across three variants.
Mileage: 22.16 km/l claimed. That is the striking part. This is the second most powerful non-Lexus hybrid on this list and also one of the most efficient.
Driving: EV mode with Eco, Normal and Power modes, paddle shifters and cruise control.
Safety: Six airbags, ESP with hill hold, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating at 30.43 of 32 for adults and 45.00 of 49 for children.
Toyota Innova Hycross, 139 kW
The same output in a body that can be ordered with eight seats.
Powertrain: The 1,987 cc TNGA fifth-generation hybrid, 139 kW or 183.7 HP, 191 Nm of engine torque and 206 Nm from the motor, through an e-Drive transmission with sequential shift. A 168-cell nickel metal hydride pack supplies the motor.
Hybrid grades: VX, VX(O), ZX and ZX(O).
Mileage: 22.16 km/l claimed.
Safety: Six airbags, panoramic view monitor, electronic parking brake, with Toyota Safety Sense on the ZX(O), and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating at 30.47 of 32 and 45.00 of 49.
Honda City e:HEV, 93 kW
The most interesting hybrid here for anyone who cares about how a car feels rather than what it reads on paper.
Powertrain: A 1.5-litre engine making 74 kW, or 100 PS, and 131 Nm, with an 80 kW, or 109 PS, motor making 253 Nm from zero to 3,000 rpm. System output is 93 kW, or 126 PS, through an e-CVT.
Mileage: 27.26 km/l claimed, against 17.77 km/l for the petrol manual City.
Safety: Six airbags standard across every City, with Honda Sensing and Low Speed Follow on the e:HEV.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.0 turbo, 81 kW
The most powerful mild hybrid, and the cheapest car on this list by a wide margin.
Powertrain: A 998 cc K10C DiTC turbo petrol with smart hybrid assistance, 81 kW or 110.12 PS and 170 Nm from 2,000 rpm, with a six-speed manual.
Price: From Rs 7,49,900.
Mileage: 19.96 to 20.47 km/l.
Safety: Six airbags as standard, and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating at 30.41 of 32 and 43.00 of 49.
How to use these numbers
If most of your driving is urban, torque at low revs matters far more than peak power, and that is where hybrids are strongest. The City e:HEV's 253 Nm from zero rpm will feel quicker in traffic than its 126 PS suggests.
If you drive loaded, on highways, or in the hills, combined output is the figure to weigh. A fully loaded seven-seat MPV overtaking on a two-lane road is exactly the situation the Invicto's 139 kW is built for.
Do not assume you pay for power in fuel, either. The two 139 kW MPVs here claim 22.16 km/l, better than plenty of 1.5-litre petrol cars, because the motor handles the low-speed work where petrol engines are least efficient.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the most powerful hybrid car in India?
The Lexus RX 500h, with 273 kW of total system output and 460 Nm, which Lexus claims will reach 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Below the Lexus range, the Toyota Camry Hybrid leads at 169 kW, or 230 PS.
Which is the most powerful Maruti Suzuki hybrid?
The Invicto, at 139 kW or 188.9 PS of combined output from its 1,987 cc strong hybrid, in every variant. Our guide to hybrid MPVs in India compares it with the alternatives.
Which is the most powerful hybrid SUV under Rs 20 lakh?
The Grand Vitara, Victoris and Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrids all share the same 85 kW, or 115.56 PS, system. Our list of strong hybrid SUVs under 25 lakh covers them, and strong hybrid SUVs under 30 lakh widens the budget.
Does a more powerful hybrid use more fuel?
Not necessarily. The Invicto and Hycross make 139 kW and claim 22.16 km/l, and the 115.56 PS Grand Vitara trails by only about 5 km/l despite 60 percent more power. See the most fuel-efficient hybrid SUVs in India for the efficiency ranking.
Why does torque matter so much in a hybrid?
An electric motor makes its peak torque from a standstill. Honda quotes 253 Nm from zero rpm on the City e:HEV and 315 Nm from zero on the ZR-V, which is why both feel considerably quicker than their power figures suggest in traffic.
Which affordable hybrid has the most power?
The Brezza 1.0 turbo smart hybrid, at 110.12 PS and 170 Nm from Rs 7,49,900. The Fronx 1.0 turbo smart hybrid makes 100.06 PS and 147.6 Nm in a lighter body. See our guide to hybrid SUVs in India for the wider picture.
